A word from Newstead Brewing Co: A meeting of excellent people and an education on how quality drives our passion

A huge thank you to all the Gents that come along to last Friday night’s meet up group. It was a serendipitous occasion experienced by all that attended on the night, with an open discussion amongst us about what it takes to stand out from the competition and to show pride and drive to get your products out there.

For those that did not have the opportunity to attend the meetup, we showcased our core range of beers from Newstead Brewing Co and discussed the stories behind each of the beers and an education into beer styles, hop profiles and malt characters. With owner/Director Michael Conrad talking us through the history of Newstead as well as the challenges and excitement of building our second brewery in Milton recently. It was great to see the enthusiasm and interest from the guys who attended, with questions about the beer industry and their own journey into craft beer, there was a  sense that we were in good company is we venture into the next phase of the business. It’s safe to say that the Craft Beer industry has a good future if Friday’s guests are any indication of the market!

The beers we showcased on the night were our Session Ale, Golden Ale, Pale, India Pale Ale, Amber and Porter. With a wide variety, there was something for everyone and there was good discussion on what was everyone’s favourite beer. What was most interesting was how people’s palates have changed over the past few years, where people who may have never touched an IPA or Amber ale were now seeking these ones out! Supporting local and trying new styles was also a key point mentioned, no more bland lagers and beer without flavour!

Once we went through some of the range, we progressed onto the sampling of Krsna’s amazing chocolates and the intricate details of flavours that goes into them. The characters of his chocolates matched the character of this affable chocolatier with such complexity and attention to detail. Having caught up at the brewery a couple of weeks earlier to discuss some pairing options, it was evident our Amber ale and Porter were the best match to his the Hazelnut Praline & Murray River Salt & Coffee Vanilla Milk chocolates. Krsna talked us through the flavours and then we sipped on the beers to create even more flavours and textures to create a ‘culinary orgasm’.

We finished the night off with some more conversation and beers, content in knowing that the world is a better place with beer and chocolate. A big thank you must go out to the team at Emporium Barbers to make the effort to create these nights. Steve and Ben have done a wonderful thing in allowing people to attend these nights and allow small business to talk about their product and services. We hope to do this again in the future.
